Photonis announced today that it has been awarded an IDIQ contract for up to 10,000 night vision bi-oculars to provide state-of-the-art image intensifier tubes as part of a contract awarded by the French Armament General Directorate (DGA – Direction Générale de l’Armement) to the benefit of the French Armed Forces. Photonis will manufacture the 4G high FOM (undisclosed) image intensifier tubes for usage in the Thales new bi-ocular to increase maneuverability and operations at night of the French Armed Forces.
It is a fact that more and more military operations take place by night. Therefore, detecting, recognizing and identifying at night is mission critical. “Photonis is proud to deliver its unrivalled technology to the French Armed Forces and help safeguard their night operations”, said Frederic Guilhem, Executive Commercial Officer Night Vision at Photonis.
The bi-oculars will be equipped with 4G image intensification technology. This technology will increase the ability to locate and engage threats and to operate in all night conditions. The 4G standard is the latest technology in intensified night vision. 4G is specifically designed to address the stringent requirements of special forces operators and only 4G can offer ultra-fast Auto-Gating, the smallest halo and unrivalled spectral range from ultraviolet to near infrared. 4G provides an unfair advantage in the darkest nights, in all terrain and operations and operators can gain from the best DRI range possible.
Photonis’ headquarters are based in Bordeaux in France and its manufacturing facilities are located both in France and The Netherlands. Photonis employs approximately 1,000 people worldwide and is world renowned for its high performance image intensification technology. Photonis is prime contractor for all NATO countries and affiliates and its image intensifier tubes are deployed worldwide.
